3 children, 1 woman killed in Brampton crash, police watchdog investigating

Three children and one woman are dead following a multi-vehicle crash in Brampton, and the province’s police watchdog is now investigating.

A man is also in life-threatening condition, Peel Regional Police say.

Police were called to the area of Torbram Road and Country Side Drive at approximately 12:15 p.m. Thursday for reports of a multi-vehicle collision.

Const. Akhil Mooken told reporters at the scene a total of four vehicles — two SUVs and two sedans — were involved. One man is in life-threatening condition and a number of others were also taken to hospital..

Police earlier said two children died and one was transported to trauma centre. By 5:15 p.m., they said that third child had also died. 

“We offer our condolences to all of those that have been affected by this tragic incident,” Peel police tweeted.

Exactly how many people were hurt in the crash is not yet clear. It’s also not known how the victims might have been related.

There’s no word yet on what role police played in the crash.The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate.

Seven investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case. The agency says it is working to confirm exactly how many were killed in the crash.

The SIU investigates cases involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
