Blues defenceman Jay Bouwmeester collapses on bench, game against Ducks postponed

St. Louis Blues defenceman Jay Bouwmeester suffered a “medical emergency” after collapsing on the bench during a game against the Ducks Tuesday night in Anaheim.

Bouwmeester was sitting on the Blues bench with 7:50 left in the first period in a 1-1 tie when he fell over and collapsed on the ground. Teammates on the bench and ice immediately called for medical attention.

He was immediately taken to the Blues dressing room as the game was delayed.

Later, both teams agreed to postpone the game.

“Due to the medical emergency involving Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, tonight’s game has been postponed and will be made up at a later date,” the Blues announced on Twitter.

According to the Blues’ broadcast team, Bouwmeester regained consciousness after the incident and was transported to a local hospital.

The crowd at Honda Center later was updated with a message on the video board that announced the game was postponed.
