The City of Toronto’s Enterprise Toronto will welcome Dani Reiss, President and CEO of Canada Goose, as keynote speaker at the 12th annual Small Business Forum in October. This free event will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16.
Reiss is a local and international success story. His belief in exclusively using Canadian design talent and production has resulted in the creation of premium outerwear products that are popular worldwide.
Reiss will speak about his personal journey from the factory floor to the height of Canadian business success, and will comment on how Toronto has served as fertile ground to grow Canada Goose into an international industry leader.
“This year’s forum gives Toronto business owners an opportunity to learn from many high-profile Canadian entrepreneurs,” said Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Chair of Toronto’s Economic Development Committee. “This event provides a valuable opportunity for the city’s business community to share best practices and learn from each other.”
The Small Business Forum will provide 2,000 attendees from existing firms and new businesses with opportunities to network and learn from investors, lending institutions, government program providers and successful entrepreneurs. The event includes a trade show with more than 100 exhibitors, free seminars and opportunities to try out new media tools for business.
A highlight this year is a contest called Toronto’s Next Great Food Product Contest, which will give five Toronto entrepreneurs a taste of what it is like to pitch their commercial food or non-alcoholic beverage product idea to prominent industry professionals such as celebrity chef Christine Cushing, John Mastroianni, Manager, Pusateri’s Fine Foods, and Dufflet Rosenberg, Founder and CEO of Dufflet Pastries. This contest is accessible to a wide variety of Toronto business owners and entrepreneurs, though some conditions apply. Applications are due no later than September 17.
The forum will end with a panel discussion on growth financing, including panelists Roy Pereira (Shiny Ads) and Marissa McTasney (Moxie Trades) – both of them seasoned entrepreneurs who have earned growth financing themselves. They will discuss their own paths to financing, what financing is available and how to prepare for investors, and will debate who gets financing and why.
