Charity box stolen from Mississauga grocery store
Peel Regional Police are investigating after a thief walked out of a Mississauga, Ont., grocery store with a charity box and what is thought to be thousands of dollars intended for orphans in Poland.
‘I can’t see the nerve of someone doing that.’– Starsky store manager Espo Ariganello
The charity box went missing from Starsky Fine Foods on Dundas Street West, near Winston Churchill Boulevard, on Friday night.
The suspect — who was caught on video — walked in with a two-wheel dolly just after 7 p.m. and, seconds later, was out the door with the large donation bin.
By the time anyone realized what had happened, the man was long gone.
“I’m shocked. I actually really shocked at the whole event. When I saw it unroll on video yesterday I was actually taken back from it. I can’t see the nerve of someone doing that,” said store manager Espo Ariganello.
Peel police are confident detectives will crack the case.
“They’ll be going and talking to potential witnesses that were in the area and I have no doubt that they’re going to find the person that did this,” said Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call 11 Division of the Peel Regional Police at (905) 453-3311 x1100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
