Ex-NBA player Jim Farmer, 55, allegedly tried to have sex with 16-year-old

Former NBA player Jim Farmer allegedly tried to hire a teen prostitute in Tennessee. But what he didn’t know was that the “teen” was a cop.

The 55-year-old, of Franklin, Tenn., was among 16 people arrested in Rutherford County in a human trafficking sting last week, police said.

A two-day undercover operation had police place fake online escort ads offering underage prostitutes, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a press release Thursday.

The arrest affidavit said the former baller responded to one of the ads on Oct. 25, seeking sex with a teen, the Tennessean reported. He chatted with a female cop who was posing as a 16-year-old girl. Farmer allegedly agreed to pay $ 170 and was arrested at the location they agreed to meet.

Farmer, as well as the 15 other men arrested, faces a single charge of trafficking a person for a commercial sex act.

He was released Tuesday on $ 75,000 bond.

Born in Dothan, Ala., Farmer played NCAA basketball for the University of Alabama and was picked 20th overall in the 1987 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks. The small forward played for five NBA seasons for the Mavericks, Utah Jazz, Seattle SuperSonics, Philadelphia 76ers and Denver Nuggets.
