FIBA Americas: Canada blows out Puerto Rico
The Canadians reeled off their third win in as many days at the FIBA Americas, topping Puerto Rico 112-92 on Friday in Mexico City.
Andrew Wiggins had 19 points to lead all Canadian scorers — but a balanced attack saw six players notch double-digit points.
Kelly Olynyk, Nik Stauskas and Cory Joseph had 15 points apiece for Canada (3-1), while Phil Scrubb had 12 points off the bench.
J.J. Barea led Puerto Rico (1-3) with 20 points. Ramon Clemente chipped in with 16.
Canada lead 46-44 at halftime before putting the game out of reach with a 24-4 run to begin the third quarter.
The top two teams in the tournament qualify for next summer’s Rio Olympics, excluding Brazil — which automatically gets an Olympic berth as the host nation.
The Canadian men’s team has not played in the Olympics since the 2000 Games in Sydney.
