The Calgary Flames acquired promising young defenceman Dougie Hamilton from the Boston Bruins on Friday in exchange for three picks in this weekend’s NHL draft.

The move came just hours before the start of the draft in South Florida.

Boston received Calgary’s first-round pick (No. 15 overall), plus a pair of second rounders (Nos. 45 and 52 overall).

Hamilton, 22, had 10 goals and 32 assists in 42 games last season, his third in the NHL.

He was the ninth overall pick in the 2011 draft.

Calgary still owns a second-round pick (No. 53 overall), plus a pair of third rounders and one choice each in rounds five through seven.

Boston will also pick No. 14 overall, give it back-to-back selections midway through the opening round.
