Joke iPhone 7 video makes headphone jack with drill

No, drilling a small hole into the base of your new iPhone 7 won’t allow you to plug in your old headphones, despite a handy how-to video that describes the apparent easy fix.
But it’s fooled more than a few now-angry people.
The joke video called Secret Hack To Get Headphone Jack on the iPhone 7 posted by TechRax has been viewed more than 11 million times.
A narrator with a drill describes it as an easy way to avoid spending US$ 159 on AirPods, Apple’s new wireless headphone jacks. (They cost $ 219 in Canada.)
After drilling a jack-sized hole in the base of his iPhone, he plugs in his headphones and plays music.
There’s no indication the video is a prank, so — unfortunately – some people fell for it.
“Followed all the steps you said and it won’t even turn back on,” wrote one commenter on the video.
“You screwed me!” wrote another.
Some threatened to sue.
It didn’t help that hundreds of other commenters on the video doubled down on the joke, saying it worked for them and some encouraging those who tried and failed to “drill deeper.”
