Kenney’s Roma tactics racist
Re: Canadian billboards warn of deportation, Jan. 26
When contemplating this article, it struck me that while then prime minister MacKenzie King did also turn away asylum seekers by the boatload, Jewish ones in the last years before World War II, he did not raise billboards in Germany saying something like: “Kanada ist fur Juden verboten.”
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has raised that type of billboard in Hungary in his campaign against Roma asylum seekers. “Bogus refugees” he called Roma last summer.
He seems to have been badly infected by one of Europe’s worst forms of racism, practiced for more than a thousand years. Perhaps he will allow a few token Roma asylum seekers into Canada, but then he will probably make sure they land in private prisons, where the children are forcefully taken from their parents and locked up seperately.
Well, what can we expect of a government that did not lift a finger when 15-year-old Canadian child soldier Omar Khadr was locked up and tortured in that concentration camp in Guantanamo Bay?
How long will we put up with politicians of whom Adolf Hitler would have been justifiably proud? It’s easy to learn what he did to the Roma in World War II. Just Google the name “Settela.”
I am a survivor of that war in Europe and I sure did not expect having come to this civilized country to be ruled by men like that.
