ELKINS PARK, Pa. — Five friends, ages 10 to 13, have been honoured by township officials for saving a woman from a house fire in suburban Philadelphia.
One of the kids was playing at an Elkins Park playground June 2 when she saw smoke coming from a house.
Aileah Greenwood tells WPVI-TV that’s when she ran to get her sister and friends.
They called 911, then banged on the front door of the house, awakening college student Kayla Hobbs who was sleeping upstairs. Hobbs says “they really saved me.”
A fire marshal says if the fire had burned much longer, the house would’ve been destroyed.
Thirteen-year-old Khasan Bowleg says it was a natural reaction to do the right thing, and credits his parents.
Cheltenham Township commissioners passed a resolution Wednesday honouring the children.
