Mayor Rob Ford appeal hearing LIVE: Lawyers arrive at the courthouse
Rob Ford’s future as mayor will be determined in a Toronto courtroom today.
The Star’s Daniel Dale and Robyn Doolittle will be covering the proceedings live from the courtroom.
It promises to be an interesting day.
Ford’s legal team will try to persuade a panel of three judges to overturn a bombshell November ruling that Ford breached provincial conflict of interest law at a February city council meeting and must vacate his office.
To save Ford’s job, his lawyer must convince the judges that Superior Court Justice Charles Hackland made an error in law.
Ford has said he plans to attend the proceedings.
He has lots at stake.
If the mayor’s legal team loses then Ford loses his job. Then it’s up to council what happens next. Councillors can appoint a mayor or hold a byelection that will cost $ 7 million.
