Duffy/Diaz

Rays third baseman Matt Duffy went into Sunday hitting a career-high .297 on the year. Now that Josh Donaldson is no longer with the Jays, Aledmys Diaz will likely spend much of the rest of the season manning the hot corner for the Jays. NEED TO KNOW

The Rays set an MLB season record by reaching 6582/3 innings by relievers. They have regularly deployed an “opener” — using a reliever to start the game, often for just one inning — with good results … Rays centre fielder Kevin Kiermaier left Saturday’s game against Cleveland with back tightness, but was available off the bench Sunday and reportedly targeting a return to the starting lineup on Monday … Rays outfielder Mallex Smith (viral infection) is expected to return Monday … The Jays are 2-7 against the Rays this year.

ON DECK

Home to Josh Donaldson and the Cleveland Indians for four games starting Thursday.
