Richmond Hill, Ont. – A pilot walked away unharmed after an emergency landing this afternoon near Hwy. 404 in Richmond Hill.

“At 1:12 p.m. we got a few calls saying a plane landed in a field,” said Const. Laura Nicolle of York Region Police. “I believe there were mechanical issues so the pilot put it down in the field.”

The small white aircraft landed in an open field southwest of Hwy. 404 and Elgin Mills Rd.

It came to a rest about 100 metres from the busy southbound lanes of the highway, just east of the Elgin Mills Cemetery, Crematorium and Funeral Centre along the Rouge River. The plane did not appear to have any major damage from the landing.

Police would not release the age or name of the male pilot.

“It was a single occupancy plane and there were no injuries to report,” said Sonia Taurasi, spokesperson for York Region Paramedics. “It’s always nice to hear when a person walks away.”
