Canada’s Taylor Ruck won the host country’s first medal at the world short-course championships on Tuesday night in Windsor, Ont. 

The 16-year-old set a Canadian-record time of one minute, 52.50 seconds to take bronze in the women’s 200-metre freestyle behind Italy’s Federica Pellegrini and Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu.

Ruck, of Kelowna, B.C., was part of the 4×100 and 4×200 freestyle relay teams that claimed bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics
