NEED TO KNOW

  • The farewell tour: Former Raptors all-star Vince Carter returned to the floor with the Hawks on Wednesday after missing five games for personal reasons. The 42-year-old is averaging six points and two rebounds a game in what he says will be his final season.
  • The other Blue Devil: You know Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett. The third Duke freshman selected in the top 10 of the 2019 NBA draft (just the second time that’s happened from one college) was Atlanta shooting guard Cam Reddish. Reddish has struggled offensively — shooting 29.8 per cent from the field and 23.5 per cent from three through Thursday — but hit double digits in points in three straight games before the Hawks took on the Detroit Pistons on Friday night. That included a career-high 17 points against the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday. He was listed as questionable for Friday night’s game, though, with a left wrist sprain.
  • Also hurting: Atlanta forward Chandler Parsons (left knee soreness) and point guard Evan Turner (sore left Achilles) were probables for the Pistons game, but playing on back-to-back nights could be a stretch.
