Summer Fresh spinach dip
1/4 cup (60 mL)
You can’t beat veggies for a healthy snack, but on their own they can be pretty boring. Add a tasty dip and voila, they come to life. The popular spinach dip, which sounds nutritious, contains very little spinach. The first ingredient is mayonnaise and there’s plenty of that. This translates into excess calories and fat. Think of this small serving of spinach dip as eating the same amount of fat as 2 Arby’s roast beef sandwiches — that’s far from a healthy snack! Aim for a more heart-healthy companion, like hummus, which is made primarily from chickpeas, tahini paste and olive oil.
