Suspect in hotel homicide is brother of man slain in Lisgar Street condo
A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Mohamud Abdiwali Dirie, who police say was responsible for a fatal shooting outside a downtown Toronto hotel earlier this month.
Toronto Police Det.-Sgt. Joyce Schertzer says Dirie is facing a charge of first-degree murder.
Police sources said the suspect is the brother of Mohamed Abdiwal Dirie, who was shot dead inside a Lisgar Street condo building in early July.
Schertzer said another man was arrested and has been charged with accessory after the fact. Police also said they are looking for Hassan Abdulee, a friend of the victim, who they say shot back at Dirie.
Kabil Abdulkhadir, 27, of Toronto, was killed outside the hotel on Bay Street near Dundas Avenue West just before 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 9.
At a press conference earlier this month, Ayan Mohamed, a friend of the Abdulkhadir family called on the Somali community to fight gun violence.
The family of Abdulkhadir spoke out against the shooting death of the 27-year-old earlier this month. A warrant was issued Friday for the suspect wanted in his murder. (CBC)
“You all need to come out,” she said. “Speak about it, talk to our children, and tell them to stop violating themselves.”
