The Savvy Eater: Schneiders naturally smoked bacon vs. Maple Lodge Farms chicken bacon . The leaner option is still a sodium bomb

Sometimes you’ve just got to have bacon to go with your eggs! Traditional bacon slices come from the belly of a pig, which contains considerable calories, fat and saturated fat, especially when compared to chicken bacon, which is much leaner and healthier. Look for a chicken bacon product that does not use mechanically separated chicken, which is a low cost poultry protein. Keep in mind both bacons are high in sodium, so enjoy occasional only.

(Note: nutrients for bacon on the package are stated for raw. The cooked nutrients were calculated after cooking the bacon and comparing the raw and cooked weight.)
