STEPHANIE LAW/TORONTO STAR A man’s body was found on Friday near the train tracks next to Jimmie Simpson Park, north of Queen St. E. Police, a homicide team and forensic pathologists were at the scene where the body was found.

The man whose body was found beside train tracks at an east-end park on Friday has been identified as 24-year-old George Fawell.

Just before 11 a.m., the homicide unit and police officers were called to Jimmie Simpson Park, near Queen St. E. and Broadview Ave. Railway tracks cut through the park.

Fawell’s body was discovered by outreach workers who regularly check up on homeless people who live in the park.

The body had obvious signs of trauma, Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux said.

Police know little about Fawell and who he is. They said Friday they didn’t know which city the young man is from.

Forensic pathologists were called to the scene to investigate the circumstances that led to Fawell’s death. Suicide has been ruled out, police said.

Police had shut down a part of the train tracks to investigate. This is the city’s 34th homicide.

Police are asking anyone who may know Fawell’s whereabouts 24 hours prior to his death, or anyone with information, to contact Det. Sgt. Giroux at 416-808-7387.
