It’s not often that New York City has to cast about for visitors, but every January and February the Big Apple sees a bit of a slowdown in tourism, with a million or so fewer arrivals than at other times of the year (and a 20 per cent drop in hotel rates). Small wonder then that so many NYC travel promotions kick off just after the new year, including Broadway Week (Jan. 22 – Feb. 7) and Off-Broadway Week (Jan. 28 – Feb. 10), both offering two-for-one ticket deals, and NYC Restaurant Week (Jan. 14 – Feb. 8) with three-course prix-fixe meals at top restaurants. Reservations and ticket sales for the three popular promos are available starting Jan. 7 on ncygo.com. There are also hotel deals to be had, with the new Muppets Family Fun Hotel Promotion featuring free room upgrades or free breakfast for kids under 12 (or both) at more than 30 New York City hotels, plus value-added offers with the Travel Perks program, and free nights or discounts with ‘Winter Stay Longer & Save’. All of these deals are part of NYC & Company’s ‘Sample NYC Winter Sale’; see nycgo.com/wintersale for details.
SAIL & SAVE WITH HOLLAND AMERICA
Holland America Line’s Sail & Save promotion, back for another year, covers just about every port and waterway on the cruise line’s route map, from Alaska (cruises and CruiseTours), Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Canada and New England, the Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii and Tahiti, Mexico, the Panama Canal and South America. With Sail & Save, passengers save up to 50 per cent off select cruise fares, plus get third and four fares reduced or free on certain sailings. And many Canada/New England voyages and Alaska cruises and CruiseTours are offering a free hotel stay. See hollandamerica.com.
