Treaty should be discussed

Re: First Nations seek to hold up ratification of Canada-China foreign investment treaty, Jan. 3

A legal injunction by First Nations groups to restrain Canada from taking steps to ratify the FIPA treaty with China is welcome news. Both our economic future and our democracy will be in great peril if the Harper government ratifies and officially enacts this investment deal without the appropriate debate that many Canadians have been demanding for months. Without the proper debate on this treaty our democracy will become an empty shell and at considerable risk of abuse of power.

It is the duty of all Members of Parliament to more closely examine and scrupulously debate this treaty on behalf of all Canadians.
