Woman dies in Roncesvalles house fire
A woman perished in a house fire in the Roncesvalles neighbourhood late Sunday night.
Emergency crews responded to a call about a fire at 304 Sorauren Ave. at about 10:30 p.m.
Shortly after arriving firefighters discovered the body on the second floor of the duplex.
Toronto Fire officials said the blaze appears to have been contained to the unit. It was put out shortly before 11 p.m.
Speaking with reporters at the scene, Toronto Police Services Deputy Fire Chief Debbie Higgins said crews found a smoke detector in the apartment but the batteries had been removed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
