Woman hit by streetcar at St. Clair and Dufferin St.
A 22-year-old woman suffered life threatening injuries after being struck by a streetcar at St. Clair Ave. W. and Dufferin St., Monday afternoon.
The woman was crossing St. Clair Ave. W. at about 4:15 p.m. when she was almost hit by an eastbound vehicle, said traffic services Const. Clint Stibbe.
She continued into the eastbound streetcar right-of-way and was hit by a streetcar, Stibbe said.
The woman was rushed to hospital with “multisystem trauma,” according to Emergency Medical Services.
Streetcar service has been suspended on St. Clair Ave. W. between Lansdowne and Oakwood Aves. since about 4:20 p.m., the TTC says.
Shuttle buses are operating until service returns. Streetcars in the area of the crash have had an exclusive right-of-way since 2009. St. Clair Ave. W. is closed indefinitely to all traffic between Dufferin St. and Via Italia while police investigate.
